Sumaya joins Global Business Services (GBS) as Regional Controller, Africa, and will be supporting our entities in east, west and south Africa. She will be focused on entity-level support and compliance. She will also support the implementation of the Global Accounting Platform, which we are rolling out around the world. Sumaya will be based in South Africa, as an employee of Stanford’s South Africa subsidiary, and she has the distinction of becoming the very first GBS (and FMS) team member based outside of the United States!
Prior to joining the Stanford team in April 2019, Sumaya spent eight years at a Johannesburg company that has a large footprint in Africa. Some of the countries she worked in included Ghana, Liberia, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Swaziland and Zambia. As country financial manager, her responsibility was to ensure that the legal entities were compliant in all respects. Prior to that she spent two years in the telecommunications industry as a compliance and process analyst. She is a qualified Chartered Accountant and is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.
